NRI can send a cheque drawn from his foreign currency account.This cheque will be forwarded by our bank to the foreign centre by courier to our correspondent bank who will be collecting the amount through local payment system and remitting the amount to us. This process will involve transit period for the cheque to be physically sent to the foreign centre and to receive the payment advice.
Cheques are collected either under Cash Letter services (CLS) or CHECK-21 SCHEME.
(i) All US Dollar cheques payable in USA up to USD 5000/- are eligible for collection under Check-21.
(ii) Cheques should be collected only for individual customers having satisfactory dealings with us for 3 years and above. Also there should be no previous adverse experience of the customer in respect of return of cheques.
(iii) Customer should sign the letter of undertaking agreeing and accepting the terms and conditions of Check-21, which will be kept on Bank record.
(iv) The following cheques are not eligible for collection under Check-21 and should be sent for collection under normal Cash Letter System: -Third Party cheques. -Materially altered cheques. -Cheques over USD 5000/- -Collection of cheques for entities other than individuals, -Customers having account relationship with us for less than 3 years. -Customers having past adverse experience of return of cheques. - Collection of cheques for Trade related transactions.
In case of return of cheques, the cheque image only will be returned and original cheque will not be returned. Hence customers must be informed of this at the time of accepting the cheques from them for collection under Check-21 and their concurrence will be obtained in the deposit slip.
